As you already know we recently collaborated with Dave from foolsandtrolls on a Mystery Box and sock design. Dave is our original and first stockist. He has been a huge supporter of our socks for a long time now. We often collaborate and share ideas about designs, marketing and future releases. Dave is an amazing artist in all platforms. He paints, does graphic design and screenprints all his clothing himself. He is a big supporter of Australian made products and get all his shirts made locally in Adelaide and he screen prints them himself as well.
We have wanted to collaborate on something together for quite sometime now, but nothing ever seemed right. We knew that we wanted to something Adelaide themed and finally found our inspiration, Dazzeland. For all of you that don't know what Dazzeland was a theme park and restaurant in Adelaide during the mid 90s. It eventually failed and closed in 1998. It was a breeding ground for some of Adelaide’s urban myths and had a reputation of being dangerously unsafe. Despite this it had some dope 90’s branding and sweet colour combos on their brochures and uniforms.
A bucket load of our childhood memories are at Dazzeland. It was the best. There was a roller coaster that was inside the shopping centre. We don't know any kid that wasn't scared to ride that thing. We definitely were petrified. Rumour has it someone fell out and died and that is why the park shutdown, we don't think that was the case but it has continued even to this day to be one of those Adelaide urban myths.
We were inspired by the goofy 90s design of the merchandise and brochures that were given out and worn by staff at Dazzeland. In our mystery box we included a t-shirt, hat, 2 pairs of socks, stickers and a brochure.
All the boxed goods were designed by us. Foolsandtrolls hand printed the t-shirt using a colour fade, split fountain screen printing technique. The hats have been custom dyed and embroidered locally in Adelaide.
Our t-shirt design matched the t-shirts Dazzeland staff wore, the brouchers matched the brochures that were handed out at the park and the stickers included our brand names designed in the same style as the Dazzeland logo. Below are some pics of our collab. The sock design was inspired by the border around the brouchures that had an outer space theme to them. So we used the planets and stars in the skyline of the sock. The socks are odd and feature two birds native to South Australia; the Restless Flycatcher (red) and the Piping Strike (black and white). The Restless Flycatcher is Restless Socks’ logo and the Piping Strike is the state emblem of South Australia.
Today is the first day you're able to purchase the Dazzeland Sock online. Shop here.
